Introduction of the exhibition :
In the spring of 2021, the Magnetic Fields Project exhibition will be held in Huaihai, TX, a place where young people gather. In collaboration with Swatch's resident artist Kalman Pool, who is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom, the exhibition presents six large-scale inflatable “Mutant Monsters” and nearly 10 pairs of paintings on display for the first time. His works, mainly paintings and mixed material installations, are inspired by biological art, natural history and his dramatic personal experiences.
In the exhibition, the concept of inflatable sculpture is traced back to the US Army's inflatable tanks during World War II, and has been recognized as a medium for public art in modern art. Kalman Pool gives new life to the inflatable sculptures through VR technology and mechanical reproduction, exploring the dialectic between the virtual and the physical. His paintings are mostly inspired by his residency at the Swatch Peace Hotel Art Center, and he reconstructs a century of memories by tracing back memories and family histories in the same space.
This exhibition will lead the audience into Kalman Pool's poetic virtual world, feeling the connection between time and space, experiencing the continuity of life and the organic vitality of art.
